Is remote notarization legal in my state?

Remote notarization is legal in many U.S. States, but the laws and requirements can vary. Most states have fully adopted remote online notarization (RON), while others allow it under certain conditions (such as during emergencies). However, under the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution (Article IV, Section 1), states are generally required to recognize legally performed notarizations from other states. This means that a document notarized remotely in a state where RON is legal (such as in Virginia with Remote NotarEZ) is typically valid nationwide, even if your state does not yet authorize its own notaries to perform remote notarizations. To confirm if remote notarization is recognized in your state, we recommend checking with your Secretary of State or reach out to us for guidance.
